Family Day 2017

More than 50 BBTC members, family and friends enjoyed the Family Day in perfect weather. The canteen did a brisk business in sausages, cold drinks, fruit salad and icy poles raising over $100 towards the Hot Shots Court and Hitting Wall to be constructed next to Court 3 early next year.

Fourteen pairs competed in the Fast 4 competition with ages ranging from 10 to over 70. The competition was won in a tight final set by Sally and Chris Hume with Manny Cheung and Phil Daborn runners-up. The fastest serve was made by Tyson Miles at over 140 km/hr and the Balls in a Basket competition was won by Kyle Sheridan whose guesstimate of 102 balls was only 2 out.

Fast 4 Doubles Competition
Finalists L to R Chris and Sally Hume, Phil Daborn and Manny Cheung
Happy Helpers Glenda Nicholson and Cynthia Scott
Speed Serve – Lachie Armstrong in action
Hot Shots – Kyle and friends

Thank you to the committee members who worked so hard to to make the day a success and to Tennis Victoria who supplied prizes, banners and the very popular Speed Serve measurer. A very special vote of thanks goes to Tyson Miles and Kyle Sheridan who organised the Fast 4 competition and the Hot Shots games for young players respectively and also helped clean up at the end of the day setting a fine example for our younger members.

We look forward to our Christmas Breakup on 10th December and another Family Day next year.

On Sunday 24th February we held our Free Tennis Day as part of Melbourne Tennis Month. About 70 people attended, members and extended families and visiting families interested in finding out about our club.  The courts were full most of the day with Fast 4 games, Free Coaching, Hot Shots for the littlies and competitions for the fastest serve of the day. Prizes and giveaways were supplied by Tennis Victoria.  The colouring-in table provided a welcome indoor activity and was occupied all afternoon with children working on the pictures of tennis players supplied. A couple of examples are displayed on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.  A great time was had by all and we welcomed several families interested in taking part in our Coaching scheme with Daniel and joining our club. Many thanks to all the members and friends who helped make this day such a success by coming along and providing a wonderful friendly atmosphere, in particular: Daniel Kittelty our great coach who spent the whole afternoon on the courts coaching, playing and talking to prospective members; his assistant Tyson Miles and the senior Juniors who led play on the courts all day; thanks also to Pat and Deb who looked after the kitchen serving sausages, drinks, tea and coffee and icy-poles; Peter and Phil who manned the BBQ;  Jan and John who worked so hard to make the clubhouse and grounds look great; Glenda who looked after registration welcoming all guests and making sure they had their sausage tickets and name tags and Club Secretary Beverley, chief organiser. Thank you to our sponsors Hocking Stuart who provided the great advertising sign outside the courts, the offices of local MPs Sukkar and Hodgett who photocopied flyers, pictures for colouring and membership forms and Tennis Victoria who provided the games and giveaways.
